Pruning Apple Trees 101

gardening pruning apple tree A lesson in pruning apple trees here.

There is no way to really teach you to trim apple trees unless you come and visit me and we work together…at least that is how I learn best. However, Josiah and I took some pictures in the hopes of giving you an idea of what to do. This should at least get you started.

Bonfires

garden apple tree Trying to burn up one garden problem causes another.

Eventually, a combination of complaints from neighbours, burning down part of a mature yew hedge and an old apple tree had me enraged. I waited a week to calm down before I tackled him. I managed not to shriek when I explained that from now on all fires had to be enclosed in the furnace dustbin (a nifty little galvanised dustbin with a chimney in the lid).

Clear The Decks

garden deck roof A gardener has to clear off the roof deck in preparation for a move.

I’m seeding and planting the remaining larger containers and ceramic pots to empty out the smaller starter pots which will be bundled together for sale tomorrow. There will be lettuce, celery, dill, domesticated rose bushes, thyme, oregano, sage, spinach, swiss chard, leeks, red onions, flowering bulbs, wild rose bush, numerous species of lilies, peppermint, pansies, rosemary, strawberries, apple tree, concord grape vine, cedar trees and more.

Planting Apples

garden apple tree Leftover peat pots? Plant some apple trees!

We had 10 peat pots left, so we decided to plant some sunflower seeds that we had hanging around, either for the birds or the hamster. We also planted one rose bush, two pots of pansies, and two pots of vinca into some container gardens on my deck. And we repotted three apple tree seedlings that GB insisted we plant from his apple a few weeks ago. When we were done my deck looked so pretty and peaceful that we decided to hang for a while and appreciate our hard work.
